Squidoo is a great platform for establishing your expertise in specific niches and provides you with some great tools to brand yourself as the go to person. Three ways I know of to help you are:
1. Using your profile in a strategic way
2. By becoming both a particpant and a manager of a niche group within Squidoo
3. By particpating in the Squidoo community which should get others to talk about your expertise
Now your profile is more than just a place to administer your settings such as cash payout or charity contribution. It’s where you’ll choose your username, which should be reflective of your niche. If you’re promoting cholesterol and blood pressure products, then you might choose a username such as Heart Health.
Your profile information can be changed at any time, so if you have a niche you’re testing and decide to scrap it, you won’t have to sign up for a new email address and register for another Squidoo account to start all over again.
Another useful tip is to choose a profile picture that targets your niche. This will default on all of your lenses in your bio box, and it doesn’t have to be a picture of you. If you’re in the dog niche, feel free to put a picture of a dog. If you’re in the wedding niche, a bridal bouquet, and so on…
If you don’t have any images handy you can go to a site like istockphoto.com where you can find small size images (which are pretty large, actually) to use on your Squidoo lenses. Categorize them by niche for easy access on your computer. They’re as cheap as $1 per picture, and you’ll be able to use them repeatedly across multiple lenses.
Your default bio is a very strategic element to your Squidoo success that often gets overlooked by novices. Too many people forget to add a link back to their domain (or to an affiliate product), and simply fill the space with what they’re used to using as “bio” type content – like where they live, how many dogs they have, and where they went to college.
This is great – and it does make you appear friendly and “real,” but it does nothing for branding and profitability. Because of Squidoo’s approach to encouraging marketers, take the time to include a URL to a site you want your readers to visit.
You might link to a search results page on Amazon using your Amazon associates ID or to your own domain, your blog, or a product on ClickBank. Another tip is to make sure your bio box also uses keywords that are relevant to your niche.
